After an intense practice, leave the mat unrolled to dry. It is best to wipe it down with a cloth dampened with water. For more stubborn dirt, you can add a drop of dish soap, lemon juice, or white vinegar to the water. Do not machine wash or tumble dry. Prolonged, direct exposure to sunlight may accelerate the rubber's biodegradation process.
To ensure your mat lasts as long as possible:
- store it rolled up – folding it for long periods can leave permanent creases and marks,
- unroll it on a smooth, level surface and avoid contact with sharp objects, stones, or uneven ground, which could damage the thin rubber layer,
- protect the mat from prolonged exposure to high temperatures and intense sunlight – these can accelerate the natural aging of the rubber, leading to hardening, crumbling, or delamination.
Keep in mind that natural rubber ages over time, and its durability also depends on how the mat is used and stored.
Important tips before practice
Always roll the mat with the printed side (design) facing outward. Applying greasy creams, lotions, or oils to your skin immediately before practice may cause streaks and stains to appear on the smooth PU coating. These marks should gradually disappear after cleaning it a few times; however, it is recommended to avoid using greasy cosmetics right before exercising.
Natural scent of a new mat
The intense smell of a new mat is due to the nature of natural rubber – it will, however, disappear completely over time. To speed up this process, you can keep the mat unrolled in a well-ventilated area (away from sunlight) for the first few weeks. This scent is 100% safe and is not associated with the oxidation of chemical substances. Note:This product contains natural, biodegradable rubber. Individuals with an allergy to it should avoid contact with the mat.
